If we have over 4000members

Why do we see the same ones post? There are a lot of members that never post.

Two things that I can think of. One is time constraints created by work, family, etc... The other is more personality than anything. Some of us are passive and here mainly to gather information and maybe submit a comment or advice when we feel compelled. Others of us are very active in everything that we do and like to get deeply involved in things. Then there is everyone in between. We are a group of people who represent many and diverse personalities and who also happen to all have an interest in gardening.

Very true, nmax. Also, lots of people register for sites, then rarely visit them. I am probably signed up to hundreds of sites regarding dozens of interests, but I don't frequent them all. In fact, since I've become friends with the folks here at DG, I can count on one (well, maybe two) hands the sites I actually go to on a regular basis. :o)

Also, less than 10% of our members are actually paying subscribers. The vast majority of the members at DG are here to take advantage of the other features of the site.

There are also members (both subscribing and non-subscribing) who only visit once a month (or even less frequent than that).

The forums are a very small part of DG, overall. In terms of the size and volume of content present here, the forums represent less than 5% of the total amount of information available to the member.

Ahhhhhhhh Zany, what did ya have to go and bring that up for? I prefer the terms "chatty", "outgoing", "animated" or how about "charming, witty personality"

Zany I was going to post that very same thing....lol!! You beat me to it you cheeky monkey!! You know I'm the Queen!!! Cala you might have all those love attributes whilst we are just plain gasbags. Well Zany is plain - I'm the Royal one....lol!!!

In my case, it was a comfort zone. I've lurked for months commenting on when I felt strongly or it was one of those great personality testers. Once I had corresponded by email with several and gotten to "know" folks from their posts, I feel more comfortable to contribute and at times, add my own thoughts. In the beginning, I had several thoughts and emailed them privately to Dave and a few days later similiar thoughts appear on Dave's Garden forum. Little things like that have helped to make me "feel" at home. Hope that helps

Hey! 20% of the people do 80% of the work on PAID jobs so the proportion that are active on just for fun things probably won't be any higher for the same or different reasons notwithstanding poetical musings, the Quadratic equation and other little understood Human anomalies. Of course some people just ARE Gas Bags and are apt to write a lot of stuff that don't mean nuthin'.

The term gasbag came jokingly from an ex-member of DG when some of us were making comment on the number of posts that had been made and by whom. It appears that Dave was the number one gasbag whilst I and one other came in a close second....lol!! I would think this has all changed in recent months though!!! In England gasbags are people who have very little to offer except wind!! So this demoted Queen Gasbag hopes in some small way that she has contributed some time and limited knowledge to DG and whilst many of us do indulge in some frivolity and like to have a laugh now and again, I think nearly all GDers have much to contribute and they do so in a pretty nice way. Many members do have jobs but still are still drawn by the camaraderie and all the information to be gleaned at this site!! How they stay awake beats me!!! All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy (as we say back home) :-)

We just bookmark Dave's Garden on our work computer and hope that we have enough money or "dirt" on the internet usage guy to pay him off so he doesn't tell on us.

Well, I'm a gasbag I think, but more probably a chatterbox that feels the need to know everything about gardening I can. Not only gardening, but many other things we discuss here too. I'm still in the learning stage. LOL! I love it here. I come here everyday and most of my best friends are here. I don't have time to "go out with the girls" to shop and whatever. I do my socializing here where I can still get my housework done and take care of my family, (in short bursts).

P.S. I do check this site at work too! LOL! I think I'm addicted.

My goodness, ya'll are a ca-razy bunch of folks to hang out with! You scare me! Sorta like when I was only 14 yrs old and was in typing class (I flunked out of Latin and had to take typing the rest of the yr)...anyway, I had something to say and started saying it, OUT LOUD! Well, I had to say it LOUD, there were 47 type-writers going 'clickety-CLACKITY clickity-CLACKITY clickity-CLACKITY!!!!' ('cept mine was only going 'clack....clack...clack...'. I just knew something was wrong with it). Anyway, I hollered out loud over the noise to my typing teacher, Mrs. Dillman. (Ya hafta unnerstand tho, she was about 7 feet tall and almost as wide, had hairy legs and beard stubble, and hated me cuz she had had my two older brothers in previous years. I was doomed from the beginning!)
Anyway, when she glared at me for talking right OUT LOUD(!) I shrunk back. (If she hadn't been between me and the door I'd a'ran off screaming!) (OUT LOUD!) I was trapped!
Anyway (again) I was Dillmanized. (Sort of like being mortified! and put to shame just from that killer look!) (Some of the other kids in class knew it also...their typing machines all of a sudden went 'clicka-clicka-clicka-clicka', in slow motion, as if even they, the machines, were paying attention!)
Anyway folks, to make a short story shorter...from that day on I've become a man of few words. Just cain't help it. Blame it on Mrs Dillman. (I REALLY wanted to grow up to be a gasbag! Wahhhhhh..........!!!!)

ROFL.......I don't think I like Mrs Dilman at all!!! If she's the one that put the gag over your mouth then she should pay for her crime. To rob us good folk of your verbal utterances is a sin unsurpassed by any other. Now Shoe is this a true story or just a lot of gas...lol!!

What Shoe leaves lacking in quantity is always made up for by the Quality of the laugh he gives!
