Any idea who's hive/nest this might be?
Giant Hive attached to my shed
This appears to be a nest of a bald-faced hornet, Dolichovespula maculata. These are predatory in nature, consuming many caterpillars among other things. Although they will defend their nests vigorously if approached to closely, I have routinely come within a few feet of them, and have never been bothered. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bald-faced_hornet for more information.
Thank you, Flapdoodle- I have yet to see the inhabitants. Although newly constructed, it appears abandoned.
