Hi everyone, I wanted to know what kind of spider this is. I encountered it today in Los Angeles and I thought at first it was a brown recluse but after some research, I found out it wasn't. But I can't find anything that looks like this. Thanks!
Please identify this spider
This appears to be Steatoda nobilis, sometimes called a false widow spider. This is a relatively recent introduction from Europe; there is some debate about the medical significance of its bite. I've been bitten by another Steatoda species, and it was quite painful. See http://cisr.ucr.edu/european_spider.html for more information.
Thanks!
