i have a large old fashion lilac bush in front yard mixed in with a lot of volunteer trees and weeds. Before i start hacking out the undergrowth want to confirm that this leaf type belongs to the lilac.

Agree with Syringa sp. - opposite arrangement of simple leaves.
Thank you very much. looks like it is spreading which is a good thing in its current location creating a barrier on a heavy traveled road.
