Have killed a few of these inside my house. What is it?
What is this?
It is a vespid wasp (yellowjackests/hornets), but I am uncertain as to the exact species. It superficially resembles a bald-faced hornet (Dolichovespula maculata), but the abdominal markings are wrong for that species. It also looks somewhat like one of the black and white species in the genus Vespula, but again, there are inconsistencies in the markings that concern me. The genera Dolichovespula and Vespula may be distinguished by the degree of separation between the base of their jaw and the lower margin of their eye - see https://ibycter.files.wordpress.com/2013/09/untitled-51.jpg
