What the heck is this plant???

Newtown, CT

We moved to a new house and the previous owner had their property landscaped. There are a number of plants I can't identify. This is the most interesting one. One has Day Lillies planted around the base and it's a good 8 feet tall. The other one - with the yellow flowers on the top - has Hosta around its base and is about 7 feet tall. Any ideas?

The one with the fuzzy seeds looks like Lactuca biennis.

The one with the yellow flowers looks like Verbascum thapsus.

The one with yellow flowers is probably Mullein, which is a form of Verbascum. The fuzzy white one, I don't know. Are the leaves of the yellow flowered one fuzzy? The wild Mullein that grows around here has yellow flowers and fuzzy foliage.

Both of the plants illustrated and described are landscape weeds - not typically a designed element in a garden.

They have attractive qualities alone. They might not be as interesting when their thousands of seeds populate your landscape next year.
