My wife is a contract cleaner and has got a job cleaning an elderly persons house that has been moved to a care home.
The lady's house has cupboards full of these eggs. Some are live and some are dead.
Anyone got any idea what they are?
We're in the UK if that's any help.
Can anyone help identify these eggs?
These don't look like eggs of any kind nor do they look like rodent droppings either. If these seem hard to the touch, they might be seeds of some kind hoarded by mice. I am somewhat puzzled by your comment that some seemed 'alive' - can you elaborate?
Some seemed to ooze when squashed and some were just shells. We have since come to the conclusion that they are pokeweed berries hoarded by mice.
Makes sense. I was not aware that pokeweed had made its way across the Atlantic, but I must say that I am not terribly surprised. It is considered a pest species in much of its North American range...
