I found this caterpillar attached to my watering can at camp on Lake Shebandowan, Ontario. Any ideas?
CLOSED: Identification please
This appears to be a caterpillar of a brush-footed butterfly (family Nymphalidae); likely one of the tortoiseshells - see http://static.inaturalist.org/photos/940051/original.jpg?1403380325 for an example. It is in the act of attaching itself to a firm substrate before undergoing pupation.
Thank you Flapdoodle. I'll check it again when I'm out there later this week to see how it's coming along.
