I have three of these wonderful trees in my yard and I came across a pretty small sapling, perhaps 4 inches tall, which was doing fine until an unknown critter decided to chomp it off right above the first leaves.... So my first question is do you think it will survive?
Next I was looking at the trees and noticed only a couple seed pods on one of the three trees. So I was wondering if that is normal and I guess just in general what I should expect as far as seeds go with these. If my little guy doesnt make it I was hoping to try again with those pods.
Question on Honey Locust(non thorny types)
Hello. Many years ago, I planted a Honey Locust (thornless) tree in my front yard. It was doing quite well until a kid in the neighborhood lopped off the top of it. I was heartbroken and wondered whether I should throw the tree away since it probably wouldn't grow properly after that. You should see that tree today. It is a beautiful shade monster. Those tiny leaves are a pure delight as the sun shines through the tree providing a dappled shade. In the spring, they are yellow. I guess the kid did me a favor since the tree sprouted from where he had lopped it off and grew in several different directions like a hand reaching upwards. I hope your little guy makes it. Baby it.

I had to share, I went out today and found my poor baby honey locust is surviving!! Originally this had 2-3 sets of leaves then was eaten clear off at the top and half of one of the first leaves. Today I found this!!
If you ever want the thorny ones I rip 10 saplings out of the yard every day.
