Found this on my milkweed instead of those nice caterpillars. Also thats another question, when do you think I should see Monarch and Swallowtail caterpillars in South Dakota? I thought I saw eggs but still no caterpillars. Lastly, is this guy a keeper?
CLOSED: Interesting bug where I hoped to see Monarch caterpillars!
This a milkweed longhorn beetle (Tetraopes sp.) in the family Cerambycidae - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetraopes_tetrophthalmus
As for Monarchs, see http://igrow.org/gardens/gardening/fall-butterfly-season/
