I cannot keep insects away from the plants. I spray with an oil, but something keeps eating the leaves.
I cut it back every year and say" That's it." Think I might actually do it this year.

I never had anything eat the leaves but cucumber beetles used to eat the flower. I used to use Bayer Tree and Shrub systemic. Easy to use and 1 dose lasted the whole season. I grew many brugs so I would only treat the favorite ones of bugs. The bugs would travel from brug to brug (brugmansia = angel trumpet) so eventually they would eat a poisoned one.
