It was on my co workers arm and he smacked it off I have never seen it before and neither has he what kind of bug is it?

It's a mayfly (order Ephemeroptera). They spend most of their life as aquatic naiads/nymphs at the bottoms of streams or ponds where they are an important part of the food web there. Fish such as trout feed on the emerging adults. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayfly
