Hello Flapdoodle, I hope you are around and able to tell me what this buggie is. She seemed to be depositing eggs or something (you can see her bottom half bent underneath her)...
Look at this sucker
This is a mydas fly; likely Mydas clavatus - one of the largest true flies (order Diptera) in North America - see http://bugoftheweek.com/blog/2015/7/1/a-fly-with-a-golden-touch-mydas-fly-imydas-clavatusi. She is depositing her eggs in an area where the larvae can find the grubs of beetles (such as those of May beetles and relatives) upon which they will feed.
