Pepper plants & Vinca eaten

Wrightsville, GA

Hi! For the last 4 days my plants are being decimated! The only plants that are disappearing are chili red hit pepper, orange bell sweet pepper & my white Vincas. They haven't touched the pink Vincas. Weird huh?? It's like a clean bite. Almost looks cut with scissors. I have attached pics. What could be doing this??

Probably rabbits. One really annoying thing about them is even if they don't eat a plant they will still often "taste" it and leave most of it bitten off (that's what happened to your pepper).

Thanks Tom! That's kind of what we were thinking. Do you think they got the Vincas too? It is about a 14" pot that is about 2 1/2 ft off the floor in a plant holder. And the flowers were full & about 5" high. Whatever it was ate them down to nothing but stems & some leaves sticking up. There was no trace of any laying around it either.

Rabbits are dumb and they may eat plants that are supposedly pest-resistant or toxic. Back in the day, I had problems with deer eating my roses and daylilies, but with increasing development in the area only the small pests such as rabbits and voles remain. With local animal control ordinances limiting stray cats and dogs (which is good thing) there are no predators to keep the small pests in check.

In your case, I'd recommend a product such as "Liquid Fence" Deer & Rabbit Repellent ... available at Home Depot, etc. Active ingredients are rotten eggs and garlic (smells really bad!) but it works well as long as you keep reapplying it. For edible container-grown plants you can just spray it on the perimeter and foliage to avoid contact with the fruit.
