I've been seeing small green grasshopper type bugs hopping on my plants. Are they dangerous to the plant, or are they eating other annoying bugs, like aphids?
Small green grasshopper
Can you please post an image or two?
This is a nymph of a short-horned grasshopper (family Acrididae); these all are plant feeders, but only a few species ever occur in large enough numbers to cause serious damage.
Thank you...So should I try to get rid of them? Spray? Something homemade without chemicals?
Unless they are causing serious damage to your plants, you could just let them be. The problem with sprays is that they also will affect non-target insects/arthropods, whether through contact or feeding on sprayed vegetation.
Makes sense, thanks. Now I just have to deal with the aphids....
