My “sapphire showers” duranta erecta has been blooming fine. It gets about 6 hours of sun through a screen. Now it is putting out lots of long "shoots" with big serrated light green leaves. Most of the leaves on the plant are smaller, dark green and not serrated but all the new leaves seem to be both lighter green and serrated. I bought this plant for $2 from Lowes because it was neglected, without a pot and almost dried up. I potted it in a larger pot with rich potting soil and 15-30-15 fertilizer. Did I feed it too much nitrogen? Will the leaves loose their serrated edges? Should I cut off these shoots which are coming from both the middles and ends of the existing branches. Some of the shoots are already close to 2’ long.
duranta has new shoots with different leaves
