Can anyone ID this bush?

Harwinton, CT

I discovered this bush on my property today and have no idea what it could be. It is a wooded area with much growth but there is no other one like it in the area. Thanks.

Dipelta floribunda

Hi playinthedirt:

Bless us with more photos of this plant besides the excruciating closeup. Show the whole plant, and then images of the branches showing leaf arrangement and attachment, and then closer and closer details of leaves, flowers, fruit, buds, bark, etc.

I think this may very well be Kolkwitzia amabilis - Beautybush - which I also think has been renamed taxonomically. Note the markings in the throat of the flowers. Kolkwitzia amabilis has vein-like markings, rather than a solid splash of contrasting color as Dipelta floribunda displays. Also, Kolkwitzia amabilis blooms have a fuzzy cluster at the base of each flower, whereas Dipelta floribunda does not seem to display this characteristic.

I don't know Rosy Dipelta well at all, but I think it is rather uncommon as a landscape plant, as opposed to long time use of Beautybush in the eastern US.
