The bark is all wrong for what I think is a type of Beech tree in my neighborhood. Is this a different type of species than good ol' American Beech?
Beech Tree ID
The bark on your tree is unlike the bark of the beeches I'm familiar with. The one that does show this furrowed bark is Fagus japonica.
Foliage looks like typical American Beech.
Beeches with atypical bark like this occur from time to time, I've seen the same in European Beech occasionally.
@ Growin - Fagus japonica usually has smooth bark, too. See e.g. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fagus_japonica_01-2.jpg

Thanks you guys. I've been wondering about this tree for quite a while.
