How long for Belladonna Lily - Surpise, Naked Lily to sprout?

Worland, WY

I planted some Belladonna Lily bulbs about a month ago and there is nothing sprouting yet. When I ordered them, they were apparently 'small' bulbs. I have no idea what a normal size Belladonna Lily bulb should be. Will the size of the bulb make a difference in how long they take to come up? When I planted them there were a couple with green shoots, the rest of them had dried leaves, but all the bulbs were the same as far as being firm and looking healty, etc.

I planted Asiatic Lily bulbs in the same flower bed a week later and they started coming up early this week.

I think the Belladonna's need a bit of heat to get going. I'd just be patient a bit longer. Bulb size does make a difference in plant quality and vigor.

There are two plants with those common names: Amaryllis belladonna and Lycoris squamigera. Unfortunately, from what I can find via web search it looks like you're in USDA zone 4 and that's too cold for either of them. Also, note that both plants have foliage in the cool season (winter/spring) and flower in late summer/early autumn without foliage, so even if you received properly labelled bulbs you wouldn't be seeing any growth at this time. Long story short, you're out of luck :(

Do you happen to know what the average size bulb is for a Belladonna Lily?

I think mine from what I remember ranged anywhere from 1 to 2 inches. I planted about 20 of them, so hopefully some will sprout. It really hasn't been that warm here yet.

I didn't know there were two different but similar plants. The kind I ordered look like the Lycoris. However the seller seems to be selling both kinds from the photos they have. The ones I ordered definitely have the Lycoris photo which is better for colder zones. I do hope that's what they sent me. And knowing the name of the Lycoris, this site helped a lot too.
