I am thinking about purchasing a Hop Tree to attract Giant Swallowtail butterflies and provide them with a host plant. It would be nice to get started this summer. My question is this: Would a Hop Tree survive being planted right now in the heat of summer? Or am I going to have to wait until fall?
Hop Tree (Ptelea trifoliata)
If you purchase a Hop Tree in a container and properly plant it with a moat and keep it well watered during the summer it should be fine. I'd also spray the foliage in the evening for the first week atleast.
Thank you for the reply and answer. That is great news!
