Correction... My dog found these and barked and ran away from them. Vicious puppy. Are these Cicadas possibly? Will they destroy my lawn????

These are indeed mature nymphs of a periodical (13/17-year) cicada; Magicicada sp. - see http://www.cicadamania.com/pictures/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5642&g2_serialNumber=1 for an image.
