Hi,
I live in NYC. This year, I took my canna lilies in for the winter and left them in the pots. I never left the bulbs sitting in the pot and always dug them up. Some of leaves have died back, but some have resprouted and never died back. Now that it is early spring, what is the best method to get my canna thriving again? Do I cut back the dead leaves, fertilize? Or should I cut back all dead and new growth?
Thanks in advance.
Canna Lilly Overwinter to Spring Question
As they are still in pots I would cut back the dead leaves and start watering gently. Fertiliser can wait. However in my experience Cannas don't like being in a pot, they are a spreading plant, if you are disappointed this year you can rescue them by digging them out as you did before. They are a bit of a weed really.
Thanks for the feedback!
