I want to do a large planter that will last through the seasons. I want to plant a peony transplant, fall dahlias bulbs, and iris bulbs for next spring. Is this a good combo? If not, please suggest a change. Any additions? Thank you for your help and time.
Dahlias, Peonies, & Irises?
Remember that if the Dahlia tubers need to be lifted in the fall, and the roots are intertwined with the Peony & Iris, it can be difficult. Keep in mind the height of each plant so that the tall are towards the back of the planter. Depending on the size of the planter, I'd also add summer annuals to fill spaces.
Thank you.
Peonies and Iris bloom at the same time. Makes a nice combo, but there won't be much going on for the rest of the season. Peonies and Iris bloom about 3 to 6 weeks.
Maybe that doesn't make a difference. You could plant some annual seeds to get blooms later in the year. If dead headed Annuals usually bloom most of the season.
