I'm in the Dallas TX area and I've recently noticed some small insects flying around and lingering in/around my bermudagrass- specifically in an area within 2-3 feet of the side of my house. They almost look like a bunch of small mosquitoes. Can anyone identify these guys?
Insects flying around my Bermudagrass
These appear to be dark-winged fungus gnats (family Sciaridae). Their larvae usually are found in soil that is both quite wet and rich in organic material (over-watered house plants are a favorite habitat); they feed primarily on fungal filaments found there, but sometimes will damage very tender plant parts as well.
