newspaper vs packing paper

I just moved and have lots of packing paper. paper is off-white/beige from moving company, a bit thicker than newspaper.
can I recycle this packing paper in my garden? it seems a better choice than printed newspaper.
please help.

Are you planning on using for a mulch? It should work just fine.

thank you, yes as a mulch/pre-layer to truly prevent weeds in Alabama red clay.
