Hey guys,
We've found a few orbweavers around the house and in some trees over the last few years, including a Spotted Orbweaver (Neoscona crucifera). But while cutting the grass this evening, I found this guy.
Is this some kind of morph, or some other orbweaver? Maybe getting ready to moult?
I'm in south Louisiana, just north of Baton Rouge.
Also included is a more typical spotted orbweaver that we've seen. (Photo is a bit blurry, sorry)
South Louisiana Spider Identification
This is a tropical orb weaver, Eriophora ravilla - this species has a highly variable color pattern - see http://entomology.ifas.ufl.edu/creatures/misc/spiders/tropical_orb_weaver.htm
Thanks for the ID Flap!
