I have desert landscaping with 1" rock, cactus and palo verdi trees. Each morning on my porch I have an invasion of about 3 dozen or so of the attached photograph beetles. Does anyone have a clue what these might be? They tend to enter the house, but don't seem to fly. Nothing seems to stop them.
Need help identifying a beetle
I really need to see the top side of these beetles in order to have any confidence in an identification. As it is, I cannot be certain if they all are in the same family. The vast majority of 'visitors' like these usually turn out to be accidental intruders rather than an infestation...
Hello Flapdoodle, I appreciate your time and expertise. I have included a couple more pics for you that will hopefully help make the ID on this beetle. Every morning I find between a dozen and up to a few dozen that seem to come from the gravel and move towards my front door. They are also making it into the garage. In other years I didn't sweep everyday and they would come into the house. That's why I call it an infestation. I have not found any place in the house where they are in groups.
Although I still cannot see enough key characters to offer a definitive identification, I can at least say that these do not appear to be a pest species that you need worry about. My best guess is that they could be in the family Tenebrionidae (darkling beetles). There are some pest species in that family, but they are either much smaller or larger than the specimens you have imaged here.
