CLOSED: Critter in Greenhouse

Longton, KS

What is it? How do I eliminate it? See two attached pictures. I just noticed the critter on 2/2/17 on Hibiscus, Coleus, Plectranthes (Mona Lavender), and Wandering Jew. The plants were grouped together, and the same genera on the opposite side of the greenhouse (20' away) are pest free at the moment. All four plants have been in the greenhouse since October and have appeared pest free since they came in. Since I haven't seen the critter sooner, I'm worried about a life-stage spent in the soil. Should I simply get rid of the infected plants, soil and all?

Sorry that the images are a bit out of focus. It is difficult for me to hold a camera steady at 20x zoom.

Thanks for any information. Mike

Mealy bugs at various stages. Neem will offer some control. You will need several applications, one week apart, of all greenhouse plants to wipe out hatching eggs. Treat soil surface as well. They get way down in plant crevices making them hard to eliminate. Adult males fly, females crawl. It's a major greenhous pest that requires vigilance.

Summering plants outside where predators offer natural control and treating plants as you bring them in come fall is good greenhouse practice.
