This was sometime last summer here in MA. Any ideas what this is?
CLOSED: Metalic Green Beetle ID
It's a ground beetle (family Carabidae)...
Addendum - Looks like something in the tribe Chlaenini of the subfamily Harpalinae. These beetles have a very distinctive odor about them. Did you detect anything?
I can't remember... I do see them from time to time though and will sniff next time.
What are they supposed to smell like?
It's hard to describe - some have called it a "musty, musky, wintergreen mix" - but once you smell it, you should remember it!
