I planted some Ginseng and Golden Seal seedlings in (separate) large pots on my balcony, and some of them are coming up. I cannot bring the pots indoors and I want to protect them from the South-Eastern winters (Zone 7, Virginia, where it sometimes gets to Zero degrees, and the snow an be copious, altho I remove as much as I can from the balcony when that happens). I bought some decorative straw bales form Michael's, tore them apart, shredded the straw and placed it 9about 1 1/2 inches depth) over the seedlings. I plan to wrap large bubble wrap around the pots and place a breathable transparent plastic bag over the tops of the pots -- hopefully this will keep everything viable over the winter. Will there be any problem with this setup? Is the straw safe for the young Ginseng and the Golden Seal plants? Thanks
