Hi all
The house we've recently moved into appears to have a hazelnut tree which has grown rather larger than we would like. It's probably about 15 to 20ft tall and I'd like to get it down to about 6ft. What is the best way to do this and when should I be pruning?
Many thanks in advance
Taming a hazelnut tree
six feet hmmmm seems unlikely that it will yield if you were to keep it to that height...I know here in the PNW we have shrub like hazels. I would suggest that you consider finding a specimen/variety that is more in scale with the size of your garden.
You might consider Kentish Cob
Webb's Prize Cobnut
Princess Royal
They all seem to grow to 9 feet but should easily be kept at 6 feet and continue to be productive if that is the desired result
