I never let him out without sandals. :( Of course this time I go barefoot and felt a tiny sting, looked down and see a red/black bug. I think it's on its belly from what I could tell.

I am not sure if it's a boxedler or beetle.

Is it poisonous? Harmless?

Sorry the pictures are bad. There's like black stripes on the bug, not sure if you can see that.
