Help with basil seedling, please?

East Lansing, MI

I've noticed these bumps on the leaves of my basil seedling for the last week. I live in Michigan and started from a MiracleGro seedpod indoors near a south-facing window. It germinated about 3 weeks ago and one of the first leaves was half broken off when the planter got knocked over. It seemed to recover after that and sprouted 2 new leaves too since then. I'm an absolute newbie so I don't know if the bumps are normal or a problem. If anyone can help me, I would really be very grateful!

I have never paid that much attention to basil. It just grows. I just use it. I would not worry too much about the bumps. Your plant looks healthy.

Your basil is a genovese type of basil. After the 3rd set of true leaves, you are going to want to pinch the main stem above that 3rd set of leaves. The bumps look odd, but dont appear to be caused by anything bad. You will need, very soon, a deeper pot. Basilroots like to go deep to support them as the large plant they become as adults. Mine love 95* partial shade days, but are not the Genovese. Happy growing!

It's still growing and green so I'm hoping it's nothing major. Thank you for your advice!

Yes! It's a Genovese compact. Since it's compact, the internode length is pretty small and its maximum height is supposed to be only around 18". It just sprouted its 4th set of true leaves and it's only about 2" tall. Would this make a difference in when I want to pinch the main stem?

No, a 4th set of leaves wouldn't make any difference, but I'd pinch it now.

I just pinched it off above the 3rd set of true leaves! Thank you for your help!
