Hello!
Today I found a large (what I think to be a colorful Orb Weaver) sitting in a web on my porch. I actually almost walked face first into him/her. I'm no spider lover so I got out the bug spray and killed it. Anyway, I got a picture of the underside and what looks a lot like a black and white hourglass. Are these markings common on a Orb Weaver? I can upload the picture if this is unusual.
Can Orb Weavers have an hourglass on the underside?

The dark patch on the venter of some Araneus sp. sometimes can roughly resemble an hourglass - see http://www.arkive.org/garden-spider/araneus-diadematus/image-A24357.html for an example. If this does not resemble your spider, please upload your image(s).

Thanks, the color and the general shape match the picture you linked. This particular guy inherited a patch of color that looks a little more hourglass shaped than normal I suppose.
Thanks for the info!
