My daughter was sitting on the coach this morning when she yelled and jumped up saying that a little black bug had stung her. After a little searching we found it (she had swatted it) It's pretty small, that's the corner of a dime in the picture. Not sure what it is, I've never seen anything like it. The area where she got stung looked like a bee sting. I live in the lower Hudson Valley area of NY.
It is a small wasp, possibly a sphecid; these usually sting only when provoked in some manner.
