I found this on the tree trunk this morning and it hid itself in the crevice created in the dried up portion. Which is this? I had not seen this before in my yard.

It's an assassin bug (family Reduviidae); looks like an Acanthaspis sp. - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Reduviidae_of_India#/media/File:ReduviidaeBlr2.jpg
