A couple of specimens we found while at camp at Lake Shebandonwan just outside Thunder Bay. The beautiful is quite striking.
Identification please
The caterpillar appears to be in the family Noctuidae, it reminds me strongly of something the genus Cucullia (see http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/64935490 for an example), but I cannot pin a specific name on it at present.
The beetle is a leaf beetle in the genus Calligrapha - see http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/126121555 for an example. This genus includes several species having patterns that not only are quite similar, but also quite variable, which makes i.d.s from images problematic.
