Can fall bulbs, purple sensation allium, be planted in a mixture of two-thirds compost and one-third lawn base? We removed a 4 ft x 18 ft strip of heavy clay soil about a foot deep and replaced it with this mixture. Is it too much compost? The compost is on the bottom. We live in zone 8.
Planting in compost question
I would say try it. I have been unable to get any alliums going here in my clay soil, even in an area that is on a slope with about 6" of purchased planting mix on top of the clay. Many other bulbs seem just fine. Purple Sensation is not expensive so worth a try. Please let us know how it turns out.
