Good afternoon... hoping to find out what the butterfly type creature is and also wanted to send along a picture of the biggest bee I have ever seen. This bee was at least 2 inches long, very docile and just going about it's business.
CLOSED: CLOSED: Identification please
The first image is of one of the grass skippers in the subfamily Hesperiinae; see http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species/anatrytone-logan for an example. The second image is a bumble bee (Bombus sp.). Of the 18 species reported from southern Ontario, at least four have an appearance similar to yours. See http://www.nlnature.com/observations/1422/20130724_EM41116.jpg for an example.
Once again I thank you flapdoodle. It's so wonderful to have someone with such knowledge to quickly identify these lovely creatures.
Based on appearance and location, your skipper is a European Skipper. http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species/Thymelicus-lineola
