The grasshopper photo was taken in Kakabeka Falls, Ontario and the fly/bee was taken at Shebandowan Lake, Ontario. Any ideas as to what they might be? I believe the photo of the two flys/bees might be the same.
CLOSED: CLOSED: Identification please
The flies are in the family Syrphidae (flower/hover flies); likely in the genus Eristalis - see http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/142705683 for an example. The larvae of some Eristalis sp. are known as rat-tail maggots - https://www.dirtdoctor.com/garden/Rattail-Maggot_vq1704.htm
The grasshopper appears to be a Carolina locust, Dissosteira carolina - http://rachelspecies.blogspot.com/2010/08/carolina-grasshopper.html
