First pic, ajuga in the greenhouse bog, along with a vitex start if anyone wants one. One ditch lily squeaking out a bloom, must have watered more than usual. My poor gaura crowded by a spirea and turks cap on one side, texas sage on the other. every time I break a stem off something while weeding, etc, I stuff it in that rectangular pot with the pretty red verbena and a few other stems rooting. My phlox are STILL blooming.
Hot July Blooms 2016
Does Ajuga require a lot of water? And does it spread easily?
it likes a lot of water but goes dormant in drought and returns when it rains (or it seems to) I got cuttings from a customer who had it in both wet and dry areas and her dry areas did return. I got like 3 plants, and I have a lot now. does seem to make a pretty good ground cover, spreads easily if adequate moisture, likes some shade. Bloom is lavender/purple in spring. Tops out around 3 inches tall in dry areas, 4 in my bog filter. Pretty easy to get out if you change your mind. (big plus there) I have lots
I don't think I have room for any around my pond but thanks for the offer.
I looked it up and it is a nice looking plant. Maybe next spring when I have the area around the pond cleaned out.

very nice blooms. I intend to keep the ajuga going and it multiplies well, should continue to have next spring
That's a good looking spider. Orb weaver?
I always called them just garden spiders, I spot them by the zigzag in their web. I have preserved egg sacs if I found them in the way for the last 6 years so I have a fairly large population, they will even eat grasshoppers. (and a few butterflies and doubtless a few of my bees). I googled orb weaver and only one of the photos looked like them.
It is a black and yellow argiope and on the beneficial species list.

It's an Orb Weaver, there are several different types, but the web is a dead give away. I have several every year. I just love them. They do get huge!
I see them occasionally but none this year.
According to the link Golden Orb Weaver and Writing Spider are other common names. Some years I see more then others.
If you need one, bring a box. I have at least 6 and those are the ones I have seen.
