A few weeks ago I found the odd one of these - see photo - in kitchen, usually in or around dog food bowl. Now I'm finding a couple a day and I am a bit concerned as to what they are and whether they are harmful. Even found couple in bedroom. They are about 5mm long and sort of curl up and 'play' dead if startled. Help with identification and advice would be appreciated.
The images are not clear enough for a positive i.d.; the worst case scenario is that they might be one of the beetles that will infest dry stored food products, including dry pet food. Just to be safe, you might want to inspect your food storage areas for any signs of insect infestation, and discard any items found to be infested. Then, keep all infestable items in plastic, metal, or glass containers that can be sealed.
Thanks for this. I am pleased to say that I can't find any signs of such an infestation and almost all of my dry foods are stored in jars. So far I've only been finding a couple a day and have just removed them as I see them. Hopefully that will keep the situation under control. Time will tell!
