Dear all,
With reference to topic matter, pls be advised that I found a number of spiders as included in attachment in my kids' sandpit on our roof terrace here in Amsterdam .. as the spider bears a resemblance to the widow spider (at least to my layman's eye), I would very much appreciate your input !
Thanks and best regards,
Pieter
spide found in sandpit - resembles widow spider, pls help !
This spider is in the genus Steatoda, it could b either Steatoda triangulosa or S. grossa; I am not aware of any reports of S. triangulosa biting humans, but S. grossa can deliver a painful (but not dangerous) bite if mishandled. These spiders usually are quite shy, and not at all aggressive towards humans.
