CLOSED: Skinny bug with 6 legs. Please help identify.

Deer Park, TX

My cat found this on the living room floor this morning. It appears to have 6 legs and looked kind of dark reddish. However, in the pictures, it looks blackish/brownish. I picked it up with a paper towel, then decided to take pictures. I appreciate any help.

Might be a rove beetle - a clearer image would help...

Thank you, Flatdoodle, for your help. Do they bite or do other damage? Unfortunately, I don't have better pictures.

Hi, yellow2mato- After seeing Flapdoodles' answer, I was wondering what a "rove beetle" looked like. This bug ID site came up when I searched it. Thought maybe it might be useful, since you don't have any close up pictures.

Thank you, Dianymous. I'm going to say you and Flapdoodle are both correct. My pictures aren't detailed enough to see the body segments, but it was probably a rove beetle. Thanks, again.

Flapdoodle, thank you for this site. I looked, and it pretty much matches my little bug. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.
