Mine that is 10 years old is giant 15 ft tall and 20 ft wide, my little foot talls from 2 years ago are 4 to 6 feet tall. But we have milder winters too.
June Blooms (2016 Edition)
Thanks Gypsi for your input on the Vitex. I'll have to be kinder to mine.
A few IL pix's to share. This is the only June Bloom thread, and I am so enjoying TX blooms. TX is a tad ahead of IL, it gives me a heads up on what is next to bloom. Your pink/purple loosestrife is in full force and mine is just thinking about setting buds.
Here are my yesterday's June blooms:
#1 I've been a little disapointed in the red honeysuckle, but I think it is finally going to bloom after a couple years of just growing.
#2 My clematis are about through blooming. I like this one with the red streaks (Mrs N. Thompson). Camera didn't show the red streaks very well.
#3 My clematis with the most red (Niobe).
#4 I have a short row of calla's and the yellow are the favorite of what I have. I enjoyed the calla picture above!
#5 The blue cobalt salvia/mint is a favorite of the hummingbirds and it has been in the same spot here for years - a good hummingbird entertainer for me when glancing out the kitchen window.
Enjoying the gardening and lots of it.
June is quickly coming to an end and the real heat of the summer will be setting it. Can we get a pass straight to fall?
Chocolate Daisy--purchased last spring at the Native Plant Society sale
Passiflora Foetida--from Josephine many years ago at one of our round ups
Native Petunias--also a RU plant from Josephine
My bag o' flowers, Maya Sunflowers. cosmos, and a few zinnia varieties
Smallest zinnia ever! It's about the size of a quarter and perfectly pink.
Stephanietx - Enjoying your flower pictures. Those daylily are YUMMY with such thick blooms. The passion flower is a great picture & flower. Maypop should like that. The tiny pink blooming zinnia I think is Thumbelina - I have saved seed for several years of that variety (they are adorable) - I have this thing for zinnias.
I took these photo's last eve - I have the Gloriosa Daisy everywhere as you can see. MANY years ago I bought a packet of seed specifically called "Gloriosa Daisy" and they stayed with me and volunteer every year. I think they are attached to me at the hip - ha! The last photo here is some lamium (which likes dry shade) it planted itself in the hollow of an old maple that helps hold up the hammock.
Beautiful pictures Stephanie and Brenda!!!
Brenda, your flowers are beautiful!
I found my seed packet! That little zinnia is a Button Box zinnia. I thought I planted some other kind of small zinnia, but maybe not. I also have some zinnia elegans planted, but they're just starting to bloom.
All the pics are beautiful. This summer is much more humid then I'm used to, it's making me feel house bound. I love being outside but not right now. Seeing all the pics is the next best thing.
House bound - I've got it. For me, noon to 3 p.m. is priority time for me to be housebound because of the heat & humidity. I may be extending that 3 p.m. and hour or so.
Haha! I don't go outside after about 11AM and then until about 7PM. Even at 7PM it can be very hot.
It's 7 and yes it's very hot, still!
The humidity 50% ATM, is definately a game changer. I'm originally from So Cal the temps get into the triple digits regularly but into the 50s at night. I always thought it was hotter here but it is actually the humidity.
Oh well, it will be over in a few months. Lol
Great pics, Cheryl! What kind of caterpillar is that in #3 and #5?
Awesome hibiscus and I bet the birds will enjoy those coneflowers a little later.
It's one and the same and I have no idea what they are. Looks like some kind of moth.
On the first picture there is a Gulf Frittilary on passion vine, the other looks like a moth but very interesting.
Pic one is definately a GF. I only see one cat on the young passion vine. There are a lot of ants on that vine. Could they be eating the cats.
Yes they could, they could also be eating the eggs, I have seen them do that.
Butterflies are so scarce this year, it is terrible.
I was afraid if that.
My Gregg's Mist is blooming and taking over more than its allotted space. I keep pulling it up. Someone wanted some but don't remember who.
A few days ago I was surprised to see that one of my milkweeds had a couple seed pods bursting at the seams. (Yes, saved the seeds.)
Going outside now while the skeeters are still sleeping. (I hope.) I can take heat more than I can take skeeter bites. Not that I like either.
Your flowers are gorgeous Brenda, keep up the good work.
aww beautiful caterpillar pics too
