Found this fly inside a hydrangea - body length no more than 3mm. The body is dark but very reflective. I don't think I've ever seen any fly eyes quite like these.

Once again, you have a puzzler! My best guess at present is that it might be a rather unusual soldier fly (family Stratiomyidae) in the subfamily Pachygastrinae; it looks a bit like a Gowdeyana sp. - http://www.opsu.edu/Academics/SciMathNurs/NaturalScience/PlantsInsectsOfGoodwell/diptera/stratiomyidae/image/11-5-29-3m_6016.jpg
