Overall length is roughly .5" - .75". The second image is a blowup of one the legs showing what appears to be another creature - any thoughts as to what it might be.

The fly appears to be in the family Sciaridae (dark-winged fungus gnats) - see http://www.hr-rna.com/RNA/images/Other%20Insects/Flies%20assorted/Black%20wing%20fungus%20gnat%20Yell.jpg for an example. I have no idea what the tiny white object on its leg might be...
