Body length roughly 10mm give or take. Very active. I don't think I've ever seen one of these before.
Thanks...

From looking at its eye pattern, this just about has to be a male orb weaver (family Araneidae), but at the present, i have no idea as to which species. I must give you credit for coming up with some real head-scratchers!
According to the spider Id group on Facebook, "This is a type of Linyphiidae (sheet weaver) they are notoriously difficult to narrow down to genus"
Interesting. Your spider's eye pattern still looks to me to be more like that of an araneid than a linyphiid, but I defer to the true experts. That aside, it does explain why the gestalt of the spider did not appear to me to be that of a typical araneid...
You don't consider yourself a true expert?
Certainly not on spiders! I rely primarily on some 65 years of observing/studying insects, trying to remember at least a little of what I've seen and read... :-)
My hat's off to anyone that can stick to something for so long. I spent 40+ years doing what most people consider rocket science, and I hope to never deal with that stuff ever again.
