Found this spider outside of my screen door near the light . I do not want to kill it if it isn't harmful .

I love in southern ohio

This is a harmless orb weaver in the genus Larinioides - see http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/102493591 for an example. The spiders often build their webs on structures such as buildings and bridges.
