Ok so I found a few of these in my garden soil. I cut this one in half and then took the picture. I live in northern New Jersey. It was quite small, maybe an inch or so. Found in late April. You can see some segmentation to the body and two black "horns" in front. Any help to id this is appreciated. Thanks.
Worm, grub, or other?
This is the rear half of a beetle larva, the 'horns' are structures called urogomphi that are present on the last abdominal segment of beetle larvae in certain families, such as click beetles - see http://ippc2.orst.edu/potato/wirewormlarva.jpg for an example.
